On February 12, as part of an ongoing visit to the UN headquarters in New York, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Dapkiunas met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

The key topic for conversation was the preparations for the official events dedicated to the UN 75th anniversary.

Andrei Dapkiunas stressed the need to give a substantive character to the anniversary UN Summit and related commemorative events. It was emphasized that the Republic of Belarus, as one of the UN founding countries, is ready to contribute to the promotion of significant historical dates.

The sides discussed the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II as an important element in a series of commemorative events at the UN. This significant date should be reflected in a separate memorial event with the participation of all UN Member States without exception in a friendly, honest and as open as possible atmosphere in order to illustrate the historical role and responsibility of the UN and the founding countries in maintaining peace and preventing new conflicts.
