Belarus presents second Voluntary National Review on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (VNR)

On July 12, 2022 at the UN Headquarters in New York, Irina Velichko, Head of the Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, presented second Voluntary National Review on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (VNR).

The National Review includes approaches of Belarus to achieve Sustainable Development Goals as well as progress achieved over recent years after having presented the First VNR in 2017.

The presentation was conducted at the margins of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which is the main intergovernmental mechanism for the exchange of best practices and the development of recommendations to overcome challenges and to achieve the SDGs. The 2022 HLPF is focused on Goal 4 (Education), Goal 5 (Gender Issues), Goal 14 (Life below Water), Goal 15 (Life on Land) and Goal 17 (Partnership).

Presenting the Review, I. Velichko noted the steps taken in Belarus at the national level for the practical implementation of the 2030 Agenda as well as progress achieved, underlined a negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on sustainable development.

While answering questions from the audience, she highlighted the approaches of Belarus to involve youth in the promotion and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, actions to ensure gender equality and build interaction with national and international partners for sustainable development.
