I.Kangro participates in the 51st session of the UN Statistical Commission

The 51st session of the UN Statistical Commission is being held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The delegation of Belarus at the session is headed by First Deputy Chairman of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Irina Kangro.

The UN Statistical Commission was formed in 1947. Belarus is a member of the commission and in 2020 it became part of its Bureau (governing body).

The UN Statistical Commission is a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and assists the Council in developing national statistical systems and in improving the comparability of national statistics, coordinating the statistical work of specialized UN agencies and improving statistics and statistical methodology. Recently, the role of the Commission as a global coordinator of international statistical activities has been growing; its efforts, in particular, are aimed at achieving a unified system for the collection, processing and dissemination of international statistical information.

On the margins of the session, an Agreement was signed between the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the National Statistical Committee of Mongolia. The international Agreement is aimed at developing cooperation in the field of statistics, expanding the exchange of information and enhancing interaction in the work of the statistical authorities of the two countries.
