Deputy Minister Valentin Rybakov participates in the high-level General Assembly meeting
25.01.2017At the initiative of the President UN General Assembly the high-level GA meeting took place in New York on January 24, 2017 on the topic “Building Sustainable Peace for All: Synergies between the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustaining Peace”.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Valentin Rybakov. Belarusian representative made a statement (video available by link 
) at the high-level segment at the opening session.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus presented a number of proposals on topical areas of UN activities taking into account the need to strengthen the relationship of various processes in the Organization.
Valentin Rybakov noted that the decisive measures are needed in the UN in order to overcome the global alienation in the political and security spheres. With this understanding the President of Belarus proposed the idea of a new multilateral process which would suggest an open dialogue about the causes of the international relations crisis and on the possibilities of overcoming it. Belarus is ready to contribute to this process, including being by hosting various meetings and consultations.
In addition, the Belarusian representative suggested that the United Nations should contribute to harmonizing regional integration efforts and facilitate the creation of conditions for cooperation of not only individual countries but also of integration entities. As chair of the Central European Initiative in 2017 Belarus intends to pay close attention to this topic.
The Deputy Minister also presented a number of practical ideas and proposals in the areas of UN activities devoted to multilateral disarmament, integrated implementation of sustainable development goals, improvement of the working methods of the UN system.
Valentin Rybakov welcomed the emerging understanding of the importance of relationship between peace and development. Belarus together with partners contributed to such comprehensive understanding by organizing the day before an informal meeting on “Responsible governance on disarmament and non-proliferation for progress and sustainable development”.
