Belarusian delegation meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism V. Voronkov

At the UN Headquarters in New York on the margins of the Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of the UN Member States held on June 28-29,  the Delegation of Belarus held a meeting with Under-Secretary-General, Head of UN Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov. Valentin Rybakov, Permanent Pepresentative of Belarus to the UN, and Pavel Chichko, Secretary of the Interministerial Commission for Countering Extremism and Combating Terrorism under the auspices of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, took part in the meeting from the Belarusian Side.

The Sides discussed topical aspects of international cooperation in the fight against international terrorism in the context of the adoption by the UN General Assembly on June 26 of a resolution on the review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. They noted positive interaction between the Belarus mission to the UN and the UN Counter-Terrorism Department, including the holding of a joint thematic event on combating terrorism on the Internet the day before.

V. Rybakov informed the Head of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism on the preparations for the international conference on countering terrorism in cyberspace to be held in Minsk in October.

P. Chichko reported on the activities of the Interministerial Commission for Countering Extremism and Combating Terrorism under the auspices of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus. In particular, the Belarusian representative noted the efforts of Belarus in the field of information security, as well as the improvement of the critical infrastructure protection system.

V. Voronkov, in turn, shared his impressions of the ongoing UN Counter-Terrorism Conference, and also confirmed his readiness to take an active part in the forthcoming conference in Minsk.
