Deputy Foreign Minister A. Dapkunas participates in the round table on migration

During his visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Andrei Dapkunas participated in the round table “The effect of Migration and Urbanization on the Family” held on the margins of the 51st session of the UN Commission on Population and Development, which is taking place at this time in the UN.

The event was organized at the initiative of Belarus by the Group of Friends of the Family in cooperation with international and American non-governmental organizations for the family.

David Anthony, UNICEF Chief of the Policy Analysis Division of Data, Research and Policy, E. Scott Lloyd, Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Timothy Jon Nelson, Lecturer of Princeton University as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations also attended the round table.

In his opening statement on behalf of the Group of Friends of the Family, A. Dapkunas outlined the main problems faced by families in the context of migration and urbanization, and stressed the need to develop approaches that could turn the disadvantages resulting from these processes into benefits.

The participants discussed issues of assistance to families on the move to better thrive in modern world, adaptation of cities to the needs of families, issues of family reunification, and the role of the UN in these processes.
