14.06.2016

The delegation of Belarus headed by Andrei Dapkiunas, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN, takes part in the annual session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which takes place this week at the UN headquarters in New York.

The Head of the Belarusian delegation took part in the discussion of the report of Mr A. Lake, Executive Director of UNICEF, on the results of the Fund’s activities.

A. Dapkiunas reiterated the importance of the UNICEF’s work in middle-income countries, sustainable development of which is largely dependent on the world economy. The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN stressed that all children in all countries should have a chance of childhood based on all round development and dignity, regardless of geographical location or level of income of their country of residence. This thesis was fully supported by UNICEF's Executive Director.

A. Dapkiunas highly appreciated the role of UNICEF in assisting Belarus in full prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis.

Head of the Belarusian Mission to the UN praised the UNICEF's results in elimination of violence against children, but at the same time urged the Fund to support more actively the family and family values, which is the key to solving this problem.
