M. Shchotkina met with one of the UN Women’ leaders

During her visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, National Coordinator on implementation of Sustainable Development Goals Marianna Shchotkina met with Lakshmi Puri, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women.

The parties discussed the role of women in achieving SDGs and women's empowerment.

M. Shchotkina informed about national efforts to promote gender equality and noted that one of the Belarusian government’s priorities is to ensure women's employment as one of the main conditions for their economic well-being and independence.

National Coordinator on implementation of SDGs also stated that Belarus presented a national report on the implementation of sustainable development goals, which included a cluster of issues on gender equality, at the ministerial segment of the high-level political forum on sustainable development.

L. Puri congratulated M. Shchotkina on the successful presentation of the report and highly valued the efforts of Belarus to achieve gender equality. Assistant Secretary-General appreciated the active role of Belarus in the United Nations in this sphere.
