Permanent Representative participates in a meeting of the Like-Minded Group of Supporters of Middle-Income Countries with the Secretary-General of the UN
24.01.2018On January 24, 2018, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov participated in a meeting of the Like-Minded Group of Supporters of Middle-Income Countries with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The meeting was held in accordance with the Roadmap of Activities of the Group on MICs, adopted at the second Ministerial Meeting that took place in New York in September 2017.
The interlocutors exchanged views on ways to expand interaction of the UN system with middle-income countries in order to support efforts of these countries to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
The Belarusian diplomat noted the need to elaborate a long-term UN strategy aimed at facilitating sustainable development in MICs and, in this regard, expressed full support for the idea to give a new impetus to cooperation with this category of countries, contained in the latest report of the Secretary-General on repositioning of the UN development system.
