Diplomatic Relations established with Barbados

The Republic of Belarus and Barbados established diplomatic relations on December 10.

 

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov and Permanent Representative of Barbados to the UN Henrietta Elizabeth Thompson signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states at the Belarusian Mission to the UN in New York.

Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles in the West Indies of the Caribbean of North America, located east of the Windward Islands, where it is adjacent to Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique, as well as Trinidad and Tobago. Its total area is 431 square meters. km; population – 293.1 thousand people; Gross Domestic Product – $ 5.1 billion US dollars. The independence of the country was declared on November 30, 1966.

During the conversation following the signing of the Joint Communique, Belarusian and Barbados diplomats discussed in general terms the ways for expanding cooperation. These include such promising areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation as export of agricultural and industrial equipment, information and communication and educational services, ensuring food security, as well as the development of tourism.

Close cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries can become an important tool in this work.
