Deputy Minister Valentin Rybakov takes part in the UN event on family farming

During the visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valentin Rybakov took part in a special inauguration event on the initiative of proclaiming the UN Decade of Family Farming.

The event was organised by the Mission of Costa Rica to the UN together with a number of international and non-governmental organisations promoting the development of agriculture worldwide. The President of Costa Rica, Ministers of Angola, Costa Rica and Vietnam attended the event.

Currently family farms produce 80% of the world’s food. Worldwide, 40% of households depend on family farming. The UN General Assembly proclaimed 2014 International Year of Family Farming. Now the group of interested states members of the United Nations promotes the idea of giving more attention to this problem through the proclamation of the special UN international decade.

In conversations with the participants, the Deputy Minister discussed the possibility of Belarus joining in the multilateral efforts to ensure continued attention of the broad international community to development of family farming.
