Delegation of Belarus headed by Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov takes part in the first in the UN history Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of the UN Member States. The Belarusian Delegation also includes Pavel Chichko, Secretary of the Interministerial Commission on Countering Extremism and Combating Terrorism under the Auspices of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus.

The conference was opened by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Under-Secretary-General on Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of UNODC Yuri Fedotov, Executive Director of the Executive Directorate of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Michèle Coninsx, Secretary-General INTERPOL Jürgen Stock.

The initiative to hold an event for heads of counter-terrorism agencies with a focus on information sharing and focused on practical outcomes is one of the first initiatives of the UN Secretary-General A. Guterres after assuming office in 2017. It is expected that the conference will give an additional impetus to international cooperation in fight against terrorism.

During the conference, its participants will discuss topical issues of strengthening international cooperation to combat new emerging forms of terrorism, including improving information exchange, combating the threat posed by foreign terrorist fighters, engaging young people in the fight against terrorism, and countering misuse of new technologies and the Internet by terrorists.
