Deputy Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Irina Velichko delivered a statement (in Russian) during the general discussion of OAS.

Reorganisation of the UN is carried out in three main areas: management, security and development system. The reorganisation of the United Nations development system among the main elements includes the reform of the resident coordinators system, their reassignment to the Deputy Secretary-General, and a new generation of UN country teams.

The Belarusian diplomat supported the necessity to adapt the UN development system to the new Agenda 2030 and stressed the crucial importance for Belarus of the development system's ability to meet specific needs and national priorities of recipient countries of international assistance.

In the context of interests of middle-income countries (MICs), I. Velichko noted the need to preserve international assistance for sustainable development of this category of countries. In this regard, the Deputy Head of the Belarusian mission recalled the decision of the UN General Assembly to hold a high-level meeting to discuss challenges and prospects for development of MICs, including the development of a possible UN strategy for this group of states.

The high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly is held in accordance with the UN GA Resolution 72/231, adopted  in December 2017 year.
