Belarusian delegation takes part in the UNDP segment of the annual session of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS

Delegation of Belarus participates in the United Nations Development Program's (UNDP) segment during the annual session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Program / United Nations Population Fund / United Nations Office for Project Services (UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS), which is held at the UN Headquarters, June 4-8, this year.

Belarus is a member of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS governing body of UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPSuntil the end of 2018.

Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations, Irina Velichko, indicated interest of Belarus in maintaining UNDP's special role in assisting countries in meeting sustainable development goals (SDGs) after endorsement of the development system's repositioning approved by Member States (statement in Russian).

I. Velichko informed about new directions of the national coordinator's activities on SDGs implementation in Belarus.

The Deputy Head of the Belarusian Mission to the UN called for the necessity to use UNDP's concept of “country support platform” to strengthen the mechanism of national coordinator on SDGs implementation established in Belarus, including through technical and financial assistance.

I. Velichko also expressed hope for notable UNDP's support in implementing Belarusian initiative to create a partnership of national coordination mechanisms of Member States on SDGs implementation. The first step was made at the regional forum in Minsk, held in February this year. As a practical step in this direction the Belarusian diplomat proposed to create under the auspices of the UN a relevant and accessible to all UN Member States framework of national coordinators on SDGs implementation, administered by UNDP.

At the end of her speech I. Velichko expressed gratitude to Sanaka Samarasinha, UN/UNDP Resident Coordinator in Belarus, who completed his mission in Minsk, and also expressed readiness of Belarus to strengthen potential of joint work with the new UN/UNDP Representative in Belarus – Joanna Kazana.
