Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking Meets at UN in New York

During the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Director-General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vadim Pisarevich chaired the meeting of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking at the initiative of Belarus.

The Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking was created in 2010 by the initiative of Belarus. The Group comprises of 24 Member States from all regions of the world. The UN General Assembly adopted the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in persons, initiated by the Group.

The Group of Friends discussed the issues of cooperation in Vienna, Geneva, Paris and New York. Members of the Group agreed to coordinate joint actions on the preparation of the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the review of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, to be held in October 2017 at the UN headquarters.

EU delegation and a number of other western countries, as well as international organisations took part in the event. In her statement the head of the UN Office of on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in New York S.Monasebian expressed full support to the efforts of the Group of Friends.

UNODC was founded in 1997. Combating human trafficking is one of the priorities of the activities of UNODC. Office helps governments to respond to the instability and security threats also for such crimes as smuggling of drugs, weapons, natural resources and counterfeit goods. Office deals with the new types of crime such as cybercrime, smuggling of cultural relics and environmental crimes.
