29.01.2019

On January 29, 2019 Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov took part at the presentation of the “Global Report on trafficking in persons 2018”, that was held at the UN Headquarters in New York upon the initiative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking.

Global Reports on trafficking in persons are published by UNODC every two years in accordance with the provisions of the UN Global Plan of Action Against Trafficking in Persons adopted by consensus by the UN General Assembly in 2010 under the initiative of Belarus. Reports provide comprehensive information on trends and flows of human trafficking at the national, regional and international levels and are prepared in close cooperation and coordination with UN Member States.

During the presentation of the Report the head of the Belarusian Mission made a statement (in English) on behalf of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking (23 UN Member States) in which outlined role and importance of the UNODC reports in dissemination of reliable information and best practices on fighting against trafficking in persons.

In light of the published Report, V.Rybakov drew attention to the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on the situation with human trafficking as new tendency and emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among all stakeholders including Member States, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and private sector as well as various agencies of the United Nations system in particular through the work of the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT).
