Deputy Minister Valentin Rybakov meets Assistant UN Secretary-General
07.12.2016On December 7, 2016, during his visit to New York, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov met with the Assistant UN Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations El Ghassim Wane.
The sides discussed international peacekeeping activities and possible steps to increase participation of Belarus in the ongoing UN peacekeeping operations.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus reminded the interlocutor of the recently adopted General Assembly resolution “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization”. The resolution encouraged both organizations to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of areas, including peacekeeping operations. In this regard, Valentin Rybakov and El Ghassim Wane considered practical options for joint work of CSTO and UN in the area of peacekeeping during the presidency of Belarus in the CSTO.
