At the UN Headquarters in New York, Vadim Pisarevich, Deputy Director-General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, took part in the informal interactive hearing in support of the preparatory process towards the high-level plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the Review of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons.

Refference: the hearing is held with the participation of Member States, non-governmental organisations and national human rights institutions in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution 71/287 on modalities, format and organisation of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the appraisal of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons.

V. Pisarevich made a statement at the thematic panel «Trafficking in Persons in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda».

Deputy Head of the Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy informed the participants of the discussion on the adoption the resolution «Implementation of the United Nations Global Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons» by the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna a month ago. Twenty Member States representing all regions of the world co-sponsored the resolution initiated by Belarus. The Belarusian diplomat noted that the delegations of the United Nations Member States in Vienna demonstrated by adoption of that resolution their full support of the efforts made at the UN Headquarters in New York in the field of improving coordination and intensifying cooperation against human trafficking.

V. Pisarevich stressed that it is vital to provide an integrated approach and well-coordinated work of all stakeholders in order to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals related to combating human trafficking. In this regard, Deputy Head of the Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy noted the important role of the Inter-agency Coordination Group on Combating Trafficking in Persons (ICAT) as an important element of the global fight against human trafficking. The representative of Belarus urged ICAT together with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to work closely with the United Nations Member States on this issue.

In conclusion, V. Pisarevich expressed hope that the United Nations Member States in New York will demonstrate the same high level of support and interest in the effective implementation of the Global Plan of Action, as they have recently demonstrated in Vienna.
