Head of Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Larysa Belskaya participates in the UN ECOSOC High-level Segment

On July 19, 2018 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Head of Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Larysa Belskaya took part in the general debate of the High-level Segment of the UN Economic and Social Council.

The Belarusian diplomat informed participants about the steps taken by Belarus to implement the 2030 Agenda (statement in Russian). In particular, she noted the establishment of the Council for Sustainable Development, which had become a platform not only for work on specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but also for interaction of national institutions on the issue of achieving SDGs.

L. Belskaya informed about the first parliamentary hearings on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, held in Belarus, and the Government's decisions, adopted during its dedicated meeting on SDGs in June 2018.

The Belarusian diplomat presented main recommendations of the Regional Forum of Sustainable Development Goals Coordinators, held in Minsk in February 2018, and called for a stronger commitment to partnership to achieve sustainable development of countries and regions.

In preparation of the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on middle-income countries, L. Belskaya stressed the need to develop a comprehensive long-term strategy of the UN development system towards this category of countries.
