Delegation of Belarus takes part in the Ministerial Segment of the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development

On July 17, 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York, the Ministerial Segment of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has started its work.

The delegation of Belarus in the Forum is headed by Marianna Shchotkina, Deputy Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The participants are discussing ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted by UN Member States at the UN summit in September 2015.

M. Schotkina took part in the opening ceremony of the Ministerial Segment of the Political Forum with the participation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and had short meetings with UN Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly Peter Thomson and the President of the ECOSOC Frederick Musiiwa Makamure Shava.

On the first day of the Forum, the National Coordinator for the SDGs met with Arvind Panagariya, Vice Chairperson of the National Institute for Transformation of India. The sides discussed the current relations between Belarus and India and prospects for their further development, as well as exchanged information on work to achieve the SDGs.

Also, the head of the Belarusian delegation met with the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Nematullo Khikmatullozoda and was interviewed by the UN Radio Russian Service.

 

Tomorrow at the UN Headquarters M. Shchotkina will present the Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the SDGs and hold a series of bilateral meetings.
