On the statement of the President of Belarus to the participants of the GA High-level Meeting on HIV/AIDS

10.06.2016

At the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on HIV/AIDS on June 10, 2016 Andrei Dapkiunas, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN, read a statement from Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus, stating the creation of effective accessible and resilient health care system is a top priority of the state policy of the Republic of Belarus.

“Anti-HIV/AIDS measures can be successful only with coordinated actions of all governmental structures in the spheres of education, sports, social protection, health, and law enforcement ”, – is said in the statement.

Belarus is convinced that it is impossible to eliminate HIV/AIDS without an adequate response to the illegal distribution of drugs. States must be ruthless with manufacturers and distributors of this potion.

Considerable attention in the statement is paid to the family, which naturally prevents the dissemination of HIV/AIDS. That is the reason why the government of Belarus specifically supports young people in their desire for healthy family life.

It is announced in the statement of the President the commitment of Belarus to ensure implementation of UNAIDS Strategy «90-90-90» in the short term as well as to achieve one of the sustainable development goals – to end the HIV / AIDS epidemic by 2030. This statement is fully in line with the political declaration on HIV/AIDS adopted at the high-level meeting, which is a mandate to accelerate global efforts in combating AIDS in the next five years.

The targets and commitments, adopted in the Political Declaration on Ending AIDS: on the Fast-Track to Accelerate the Fight against HIV and to End the AIDS Epidemic by 2030, will guide the world in addressing the critical linkages between health, development, injustice, inequality, poverty and conflict.
