Delegation of Belarus takes part in the second regular session of the Executive Board of UNICEF

Belarus participates in the second regular session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund, which was opened at the UN Headquarters in New York on September, 12.

The second regular session will adopt the UNICEF Strategic Plan for 2018-2021. In 2017, Belarus fulfills the functions of Deputy President of the Bureau of the Executive Board of UNICEF.

In her speech (statetement in Russian, video), Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic Belarus to the UN Irina Velichko noted the importance of UNICEF’s activities in the context of the implementation of Agenda 2030.

The Belarusian diplomat made a number of comments and suggestions regarding the draft Strategic Plan. In particular, I. Velichko commended the Fund's activities aiming at close and constructive cooperation with the governments of the recipient countries to provide them with targeted assistance in reaching the SDGs.

The head of the Belarusian delegation drew attention to the necessity to combat trafficking in children, in particular through the Internet, which takes a special place in the life of the younger generation.

Charge d'Affaires supported the inclusion of the protection of the rights and interests of children with disabilities in the Strategic Plan as one of the activities of UNICEF.

The head of the Belarusian delegation noted that the support of family and family values ​​should run a silver thread through all areas of the Fund’s work to protect the rights and interests of children.

The session of the UNICEF Executive Board will last till September, 15.
