United Nations hosts solemn event dedicated to the 74th Anniversary of the Great Victory

06.05.2019

On May 6, 2019 a solemn commemorative ceremony to mark the 74th Anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War was held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The event was organized upon the initiative of the Permanent Missions of Belarus and Russia to the United Nations with support of the Permanent Missions of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The symbolism of the ceremony lies in the fact that it was held near the Tree of Peace and Unity that was planted at the initiative of Belarus in 2015.

Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan H.E. Mirgul Moldoisaeva delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers of the ceremony. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres also welcomed the participants of the ceremony.

During the commemorative ceremony, a memorial photo exhibition “Women at war: courageous and heroic” was inaugurated. It was prepared by the nine countries-organizers under the coordination of Belarus.
