Belarus conducts a side-event “ICPD + 25” with UNFPA

On the margins of the first regular session of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/ UNOPS Executive Board Belarus held a side-event entitled “ICPD+25 in the UNECE Region: Accelerating Progress towards the SDGs” together with Bulgaria, Canada and UNFPA.

The first regular session of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board is held at the UN Headquarters in New York on January 21-25.

The side-event was organized as a follow-up to a high-level regional conference “Enabling Choices: Population Dynamics and Sustainable Development” which was jointly held by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the United Nations Population Fund on October 1-2, 2018 in Geneva and co-chaired by Belarus.

In his speech (in English), Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN V. Rybakov thanked the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the United Nations Population Fund for their hard work and a solid report “ICPD+25”.

The Head of the Belarusian Mission briefed participants of the side-event on main directions of the national demographic policy on tackling the problem of population aging, including the Strategy on active aging being developed in Belarus. V. Rybakov noted that its implementation will contribute to improving the quality of life of older people and will also allow them to be productively involved in the society.

The Permanent Representative of Belarus drew attention to the need to link further work on the implementation of the ICPD Program of Action with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. In this context, V. Rybakov informed participants about the country's efforts in effective and timely implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including on architecture created by the decision of the President of Belarus to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
