V. Rybakov meets Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations M. Coninsx

Valentin Rybakov, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN met with Michèle Coninsx, Assistant Secretary-General, Executive Director of the Executive Directorate of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee, on July 19.

UN Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established in connection with the terrorist acts in the United States on September 11, 2001. The CTC consists of 15 Member States of the UN Security Council and monitors compliance with Security Council resolutions in the field of combating terrorism. In its activities, the CTC relies on the Executive Directorate, which carries out strategic decisions and conducts expert assessments of the situation in the UN Member States.

During the meeting, the sides discussed promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and the UN on the fight against terrorism, and noted positive experience of cooperation with the CTC, including holding on the margins
of the Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of the UN Member States held on June 28-29 of a joint side event on countering terrorism in cyberspace, and the implementation of the CTC review of Belarus' implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on countering terrorism and response to relevant recommendations of the CTC on the results of the review.

The interlocutors separately dwelt on the issues of organising and holding in Minsk on October 9-10 of the international conference “Prevention and Countering Terrorism in the Digital Age”, including details of the participation of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee in it.
