On the briefing for the UN Member States on the upcoming International High-Level Conference in Minsk

On July 2 at the United Nations Headquarters a briefing was held for the UN Member States on the upcoming International High-Level Conference on “Countering Terrorism Through Innovative Approaches and the Use of New and Emerging Technologies”, planned for September 3-4 in Minsk.

For reference: the conference is jointly co-organised by Belarus and the United Nations and is focused on the OSCE Member States and partners of the Organisation, as well as on ASEAN Member States. Representatives of more than 80 states, regional international organisations, including ASEAN, OSCE, EU, CSTO, NATO, CIS, SCO, as well as those involved in counter-terrorism activities within UN, will take part in it. Participation is also expected of the UN Secretary-General, A. Guterres, as well as the OSCE Secretary General, T. Greminger. The conference will be the first event of such level organised by the UN in Bearus, and the visit of the UN Secretary-General — the first in the last 25 years.

The theme of the conference reflects the consistent efforts of Belarus to strengthen regional and international security, as well as endeavours to develop information and communication technologies and their greater integration into the functioning of society and the state.

During the briefing, the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN, V. Rybakov, and the UN Under-Secretary-General on Counter-Terrorism, V. Voronkov, introduced to delegates the organisational aspects of the upcoming event in detail, and also presented the conceptual and logistical notes to the conference.
