V. Rybakov participates in the debate on the UN GA revitalisation
28.02.2019On February 28th at the UN Headquarters in New York, the Ad Hoc Working Group on the revitalisation of the UN General Assembly began its annual session.
The Ad Hoc Working Group on the revitalisation of the UN General Assembly was established more than 10 years ago, its objectives include identification of new ways to enhance the role, authority, effectiveness and efficiency of the Assembly. During the current session, the Working Group will consider issues of improving the role and authority of the General Assembly, its working methods, selection and appointment of the executive heads within the United Nations system, the establishment of appropriate working conditions of the Office of the President of the General Assembly and other aspects of its own activities. Traditionally, the Belarusian Delegation is one of the most active participants in the process of revitalising the activities of the UN General Assembly.
The head of the Belarusian Mission focused on (statement in Russian) the most pressing issues facing the Working Group. In particular, it refers to the consideration of matters of possible changes in the timing of beginning of sessions of the UN General Assembly, the long overdue need to streamline its agenda, improve the performance by the Secretariat of the UN of standard administrative procedures, as well as other important for UN Member States aspects of daily activities at the UN headquarters.
According to the Belarusian diplomat, it is time to consider the distribution of established upon the initiative of Belarus 3 years ago informal dialogue between the Member States and the UN Secretariat to other UN offices.
