Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs V. Rybakov took part in the work of the Commission on the Status of Women

During his visit to the UN Headquarters in New York, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valentin Rybakov took part in the work of the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

Deputy Minister moderated the discussion at the ministerial-level round table on the theme «Technology changing the world of work: how can technology and innovation be harnessed to accelerate women’s economic empowerment?».

V. Rybakov took part as a speaker in another ministerial roundtable discussion on the theme «Informal and non-standard work: what policies can effectively support women’s economic empowerment?». Video of statement is available by link.

Belarusian diplomat informed the participants of the national measures taken in Belarus for economic empowerment of women. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the Government of Belarus has approved the fifth National Action Plan for gender equality 2020 for the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development with respect to gender equality.

V. Rybakov stressed that gender equality is an important factor for consistent and sustainable development of any society. In this regard, the Deputy Head of the Foreign Service of Belarus drew attention to the need of providing opportunity for women to raise their qualification throughout their lives, stimulating entrepreneurial initiative of women, reaching pay equality between women and men, as well as adopting government family support and child care programs.

V. Rybakov drew attention of the participants to the role of the family and traditional values ​​as an important factor of sustainable development. Deputy Foreign Minister noted that Belarus does not consider the family as a burden that prevents self-realisation and development of women but, on the contrary, supports the family through various national programs.
