A solemn event dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory

A solemn commemorative ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the end of World War II was held at the UN Headquarters in New York on May 9. The event was organised on the initiative of the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the United Nations along with the Permanent Missions of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Ibragimov  made a speech on behalf of the organisers of the ceremony.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Chef de Cabinet to the President of the UN General Assembly František Ružička addressed the participants of the ceremony.

During the commemorative ceremony a memorial photo exhibition “Lessons of the Long-gone War Alive – We still remember” was opened. It was prepared by nine countries-organisers under the coordination role of Belarus, and showcased the contributions of the countries-co-organisers of the event to the Great Victory.
