Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov participates in the UN ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up

Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov takes part in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development follow-up, which takes place at the UN Headquarters in New York on April 15-18, 2019.

The event is one of the international fora established under the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, which was adopted at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, July 13-16, 2015), and it serves as a platform for dialogue on financing for development follow-up.

On April 16, V. Rybakov in his capacity as a Vice President of ECOSOC spoke at the special high-level meeting with the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization and the UN Conference on Trade and Development. The Belarusian diplomat presented information on activities of ECOSOC on debt and vulnerabilities of countries in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, on the assistance aimed at debt relief, debt restructuring and sound management of it. V. Rybakov stressed the importance of joint work of the UN system and international financial institutions in this direction.

On April 17, the Belarusian diplomat chaired the Forum’s meeting to consider issues related to the mobilization of domestic public resources, as well as domestic and international private finance to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Participants discussed measures and incentives that could be offered to the private sector to increase its involvement in delivering on SDGs, and shared experiences on more efficient revenue administration.
