Chairman of the National Statistics Committee I. Medvedeva participates in the work of the UN Statistical Commission

At the United Nations headquarters in New York the 48th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission concluded its work today. Belarus is a member of this Commission since January 2017.

The delegation of Belarus was lead by Ms Inna Medvedeva, Chairman of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.

The United Nations Statistical Commission was established in 1947 and brings together the Chief Statisticians of the United Nations Member States. It is the highest decision-making body for international statistical activities especially the setting of statistical standards, the development of concepts and methods and their implementation at the national and international level. Statistical Commission oversees the work of the UN Statistics Division, and is a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council. Since July 1999, the Commission meets annually.

At its current session, the Commission discussed the progress made by Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goals Indicators adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015, as well as their counting methodology.
