On the participation of V. Rybakov in the thematic event on combating human trafficking

On March 11, 2019, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN, Valentin Rybakov, took part as the lead in a special thematic event on combating trafficking in persons, organized on the initiative of Belarus, Argentina, Australia, Kenya, Liechtenstein and the Netherlands on the margins of the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which opened on the same day at the UN Headquarters in New York.

In his opening remarks, the Belarusian diplomat stressed the importance of strengthening the coordination of partnerships between governments, UN agencies, the private sector and civil society in order to combat trafficking in persons, especially women and children. V. Rybakov also noted the key role in this work of the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT), established in accordance with the resolution of the UN General Assembly 61/180, as well as the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking coordinated by Belarus.

The event was attended by a number of states at the level of heads of government, as well as senior representatives of UNODC, UN-women and international non-governmental organizations.
