The first session of the intergovernmental negotiations on the new post-2015 development agenda takes place at the UN headquarters in New York on January 19 to 21, 2015. The adoption of the agenda is expected at the UN summit in September 2015.
The delegation of Belarus headed by Mr Valentin Rybakov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, participates in the session of the negotiations.
The representative of Belarus made a statement on behalf of the group of friends of the family in New York. The proposal to make such joint statement was put forward by Belarus at the December 2014 meeting in the UN on the protection of the interests and values of the traditional family.
The joint statement of 18 countries (Bangladesh, Belarus, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Turkmenistan, Yemen and Zimbabwe) underscores that the family is an important factor of the global sustainable development and is entitled to protection by society and state. The countries that are members of the group of friends of the family believe that the outcome documents of the upcoming summit should reflect the support to the family values and the role of family in the development process.
